Like any other sport, in coaching high school soccer too, confidence is the prerequisite that each players need to discover and instill in him or herself to get successful. When you declare that the players are under immense pressure, you as a coach are hinting to the fact that your players lack confidence to face a situation. I say this because only confident players expect to win and get successful.

Like many choices we make, confidence as an attribute is also chosen by players. Explain this point in coaching youth soccer by telling them the conduct to two parrots sitting on both shoulders.

Out of the two, one has a positive behavior and he keeps telling the player to face the challenges head on by saying “You can do it.” Then there is the other parrot who is full of negativity and keeps telling the player “You can’t do this.” Without a doubt, it’s the player who has to choose which parrot to take note of.

Also teach them to take full responsibility of the consequences that follow their choice. And this may be an everyday decision. Prepare a team of successful players full of confidence by directing their attention, energy, and enthusiasm in practice towards their role in past success.

Coaching Youth Soccer

In soccer coaching, players should be made to know that blaming someone or something is a signal of insecurity. As a matter of fact, players should be trained on taking every setback as a lesson to become even more confident and not to feel discouraged.

Also, in coaching high school soccer, the players should learn by heart the phrase “I’ll get the next one” to keep them going whenever they lose any opportunity.
Automatically, the confidence for the next strike overshadows the distress of the miss.

A team is said to be successful if you have the ability to make quick judgments regarding a player’s ability to survive in competition. Judging physical readiness in football coaching is relatively easier than judging mental readiness.

To make such judgments easy, there is a need of searching clear messages. The spoken and unspoken messages of the player should be taken into account to ensure his or her ability to succeed in the game.

Confidence is the fruit of success. When you are completely satisfied with your work that you have done and when you are ready to face a pressure – cooker scenario which is anytime possible, you achieve success in soccer. The common stimulus used for motivating the players is “If you are not preparing to win, you are preparing to fail.”

Confidence is built on experience. To build a strong base of the much needed experience, the players must be trained to cope up with their mistakes, defeats and criticism and fears, calmly. It is the feeling that he or she has the knowledge, has been there before, and knows what to look forward to.

Don’t take it for granted. In coaching high school soccer, constructing confidence is a daily task and hence, players should intimate on the key steps to find out their positives.

In coaching high school soccer it’s a proven fact that self-control is a choice and players have to choose it just like they do for confidence. In soccer coaching, it’s the relation between emotions and thoughts that concludes the self control strategies. All of us know our mental state influences our passions that accordingly enhance our performance.

With a view to help the players in learning the skill and discipline of self-control, there is a 12 step strategy which I shall discuss with you. Still, it is better that players take up these steps only when they feel that it is going to be of value to them.

The players should be ready to accept full responsibility for their acts as well. The strategy has been given below in 12 steps for your reference.

1. Awareness: Help the players figure out their weak points during the course of coaching youth soccer. Allow them to investigate when, where and how loss of control happened on field in their past.

2. Understanding: Make the players realize why their thinking changed and how it caused them to lose their emotional balance.

Coaching Youth Soccer

3. Differences: Let the players recall situations in the past when they did and did not lost control. Have them decide the differences in their attitudes, behaviors, and emotions.

4. Problem: When it comes to coaching high school soccer, try to point out the real problem. For example: A players may be feeling responsible of letting the entire team down because of his actions.

5. Belief: The players should manage to raise their expectations from them including self-control as one of the behaviors. Persuade them that they can change.

6. Reinforcement: Behavior change is accelerated by reinforcement. Therefore, you must not forget your duty as a coach to recognize and honor the improvements of players so that they stick to these.

7. Goals: Start with multiple smaller goals, so that you can take your players along the path to changes. Guide the players in understanding the correlation between way of thinking, thought process, and actions.

8. Techniques: To maintain the confidence level, employ a set of behavioral practices. For example: Players must know which path to follow in a certain situation.

9. Plan: In football coaching, teach the players to pursue their goals in a planned and systematic way.

10. Progress: Tell them to learn the skill of patience. Let them know that improvement always comes in a series of ups and downs.

11. Setbacks: Teach the players on how to live with the setbacks that are unavoidable. Therefore, try to learn something new from every setback.

12. Remembrance: Last but by no means the least, make the players understand that they are trying to change for a reason. They must understand the importance of what they are doing. What would the change mean to them for their future?

For a soccer player to achieve a perfect performance state, the player must be trained for relaxed swiftness. This simply means use of full energy without stress.

This is of utmost importance. Coaching high school soccer must include relaxation techniques so that the players can learn to be in-charge of their emotions to save energy and kill any fears.

There is lots of good information available in the form of articles, newsletters, and videos on youth soccer coaching community to help you learn new coaching techniques; hurry subscriptions are open.

When it comes to coaching high school soccer, communication is the most vital part to consider on way to achieve success. The actual meaning of coaching kids is the art of communicating with them. This has the effect of expressing yourself to people with a view to perform them things in precisely the same manner.

In soccer coaching, I’ve come to notice that generally the former players have assumed the responsibility of being coaches. Still, there are several problems that they have to find solutions to. Majority of these issues come up due to communication lags. You must recognize that there are certain issues related to communication that need special attention if your job is to be made easier.

Let me explain them to you one at a time.

In the course of watching the young players on field, coaches often get emotional. They tend to become spectators rather than analytical observers. As such they are not able to see the key points that could make all the difference in their team’s performance. The coaches fail to have an effective conversation that could help the players get to the winning post.

Though the coaches today are complete professionals fully acquainted with the game, they lack communication training. For example; in soccer coaching, use of a video or a flip chart is not very common since most coaches don’t know about them. It’s important for the coach to know the game well but if he is unable to communicate his thoughts, the training gets repetitive.

Coaching Youth Soccer

This is especially important in coaching high school soccer since the players have been into the sport for quite some time. They have been performing soccer drills on the same lines for quite some time, although at different levels. You can do away with the monotony of repetitive messages by frequently changing the layout of training.

You’ll be amazed to know that coaches tend to forget sometimes that it is people who carry out the trainings. They get so absorbed in the training and coaching as a process that they lose their ground. For example; Sending out instructions without taking the player’s name leads to uncertainty and confusion.

There are certain guiding principles in football coaching which are as follows:

• All messages from the coach are important for players. So ensure that they are understood completely and correctly.

• Use positive language that encourages players to give their best shot. Allow them to grow and become better players instead of highlighting their flaws.

• Pay equal attention to each player in the team. Research indicates that coaches spend a lot more time (up to seven times more!) with star players.

• Adopt a proactive approach to identify the impending problems and solve them.

• Accentuate your player’s self worth by balancing praise with criticism. When it comes to coaching high school soccer, tilt the balance slightly more towards praise.

Trust me. When you apply these rules to your training sessions, the benefits will be much more that you’ll expect.

When coaching high school soccer, it is the behavior and approach of the coach that has a major impact on the performance of the players. A coach should prepare a course that stresses the development of a positive winning attitude with a view to have a mentally tough team.

The most important and a prominent authority figure in a player’s career is his or her coach. The coach’s body language, mind-set, and expressions can shape, strengthen, or harm the player’s confidence.

When coaching youth soccer, mental strength is required to meet the challenges through a positive willpower. So, it is the coach who should be the starting point in practice and competition both.

In order to make sure that the coach does not get either too high or too low, he or she should pursue a disciplined post match routine. A competent coach will draw on ideas, narrative, and symbols, videos, and like that to shape the collective outlook of the team and ready them to be mentally strong on the playing field.

Coaching Youth Soccer

In football coaching, the coach must show the ability to deal handle emotional setbacks regardless of personal feelings in order to build a mentally strong team.

If the coach shows an unwavering belief in the team’s ability to achieve despite the obstacles, then the team has a framework for building the same mind-set and will become increasingly motivated.

In coaching high school soccer, another critical area for which the coach is responsible is handling mistakes and failure. How strong the players feels motivated to correct the mistakes made is largely dependent upon the coach’s reaction to failure. There are two option for the coach to choose from.

One of the choices can be employing the failure as a prospect to provide advice and guiding the players towards their improvement. Convince them to recommit themselves to the endeavor with renewed enthusiasm.

Making use of the failure as an evidence of the player’s inadequacy and proof that he cannot meet the expectations, can be the second choice. This emotional overreaction will de-motivate the players.

Players can be made psychologically strong by accommodating the accountability for their judgment, stances, and actions and rejecting all probable excuses. While soccer coaching, the coaches can help the players by questioning and listening them rather than always telling the players of their mistakes. The players should be encouraged to talk about their better performance which they could deliver.

This can be referred to as self-reference. Self reference can be encouraged in the players by the coach to motivate them to perform better. Instead of giving the players a definition of the situation, the coach can ask the player his or her reactions. Take an example: “How do you feel you played?” or “Why do you feel you behaved that way?”

This way the players must think through and account for his or her reactions which are a vital part of the learning process.

So, start applying the methods you just learnt, in coaching high school soccer.

Allow me to put a simple question to you. To coach youth soccer, what 3 things can a coach do? Before you jump into answering this question, realize that youth soccer means that kids should enjoy the game. The attention should always be making the exercises exciting so that the players have fun all the time.

So, to teach youth soccer, keep in mind the following three tips. These will give you the leverage to turn the young kids into expert players.

Let the players have fun: As discussed, youth soccer translates into fun sessions for the players. As a coach, prepare each of the sessions beforehand. For example, make them start with warm-up drills that prepare them for the sessions. Then move to advanced drills such as passing, dribbling, trapping the ball etc and so on.

In addition, help the kids do some creative thinking on their own. Encourage them to try new things and even of they are doing something wrongly, do not interrupt them. Chat about it after the end of the session. Parents need to be actively involved if the game has to be made enjoyable for the children.

Coaching Youth Soccer

To coach youth soccer, this is crucial since the kids spend more time with their parents than on the field. Request the parents to help you in monitoring their diet, motivate the kids, and maintain regularity in trainings.

Condition yourself to the age level: Teaching soccer to the young players is generally between the age of 7 and 14. At this level, it is very painstaking to find drills that actually make the kids happy. So, research a lot over what games you would like them to play. Also, communicate carefully with them as they may not understand your intent behind the exercises if you are too formal in your approach.

It makes sense to split the group into two and name them differently. This instills brotherhood. It is recommended not to conduct a lot of experimentation also. A well designed session consists of both new as well as old tricks.

Write down the drills: It is a good idea to write the exercises and the results that you are expecting from them. It makes the efforts of the team worthwhile. A written document is always useful in determining the objectives of the team. If something needs a change, written plan will assist you in assessing it.

You can determine your goals easily too. It is perfectly usual for a few things to go wrong and in that case, you can always get back to the original plan.

It is safe to say that youth soccer is a dynamic, fun-filled, and yet a responsible job. However, with proper planning and these essential tips handy, you will succeed at it without a doubt.

Test them right way. These tips on coach youth soccer are guaranteed to bring you marvelous results. For more such tips on youth soccer, join our youth soccer coaching community where you will find many resources and like-minded individuals from the soccer community.

Let’s face it! When you coach youth soccer, it becomes a challenge to come up with challenging and interesting drills for the kids. In teaching soccer, it is a huge stress to keep innovating new tricks to make soccer drills enjoyable for kids.

What follow are some drills that you can teach youth soccer players. These help them not just focus on the game, become proficient in soccer, but also enjoy the game.

Employ the players to do dribbling and shooting: This is an easy drill that helps all the players practice at the same time. Have the kid’s line up on the single goal line. Now distribute the balls all over the soccer field. Then, make the kids move with the ball as if they are attacking the opponent’s goal. They should also hit the ball as soon as they get a chance.

This exercise does a lot of good to the energy level, and confidence of the players and at the same time perks their dribbling skills. As the kids do not face any opposition while moving forward, it reflects their style of playing soccer.

Coaching Youth Soccer

How to pass the ball: Ask the kids to stand in a line at a far-away corner of the field. Make them run to you fast as soon as you finish counting till 3. When they are running towards you, they should also try to take over the ball from the other player who has it. When you shout stop, the ball must be passed by the player who has it to someone else.

When you coach youth soccer, these games make the kids showcase their best skills in passing and dribbling. At the same time, they learn the skill of clinching the ball from others which is also vital.

Touch and Go: A game full of fun that kids just love to play it. The kids should get in two lines distant from the goal post which is less than 40 meters away. Moreover, it’s the goalie who should protect the goalpost. Situate yourself in between these two queues.

The ball should then be passed on to any one row to subsequently pass or shoot the ball with just one contact. The purpose must be to convert it into a goal. Once the goalie returns the ball, carry on with the practice.

When you’ve got two or more goalkeepers in team, make sure you keep include them in alternating sessions. This game involves team effort and also improves the shooting skills. The goalkeeper becomes skilled at protecting the ball from converting to a goal.

Keeping the control of the ball: This exercise allows the players to learn to advance with the ball while retaining its control. Play with two people where one becomes the attacker and another, the protector. The players should then to told to proceed as per their part and try to get a point every time by leading another player.

These happen to be the simplest methods to coach youth soccer. Make your kids practice them and you will help them learn and have fun at the same time. You can connect to our youth soccer coaching community to get more of these tips and information.

Do you have any idea how tough it looks to coach youth soccer team? Honestly, it’s not that difficult for anyone having a style to handle the kids, right approach, and useful tips.

It’s best to initiate with the basics. This stage will help in inculcating interest in the sport which will provide the basis for their professional growth. Besides, a clear understanding of the basics has the advantage of instilling more confidence in the players.

In an effort to teach youth soccer, don’t do anything to begin with. Observe the kids very closely while just letting them be. Don’t make huge efforts to systematize things or train too much. This way, the kids will just enjoy the game and that is most important.

Provide short and accurate feedbacks on which the kids can act instantly. Give these feedbacks only at the end of the session, not during them. Remember that they are just kids and so it is important to communicate with them in their language.

Coaching Youth Soccer

Parents are more involved in their kid’s improvement. It is therefore helpful in involving them early on. This is the best way to ensure that kids don’t lose their interest in the game when they are not in the field. Make sure that you understand their queries and answer them appropriately.

Please see that all available communication methods are utilized. Personal meetings, telephones, email are all acceptable and effective modes of dialog. But be careful! See that you or the kid’s parents don’t instruct them while they are on field. Moreover, negative comments, if any should always be shared when the young players are all alone.

To coach youth soccer successfully, one must communicate regularly with the fellow trainers. The event opens up new modes of communication for all coaches involved who share their special experiences and their advice.

Organize the drills beforehand. This essentially means that you do your homework well in advance. The reason that they are dealing with the kids presses on some coaches to take a relaxed attitude. But it’s wrong. In youth soccer also, proficiency and politeness have the same relevance similar to that in professional soccer.

Engage the kids in drills that train them the basics and are also a whole lot of fun. Like, it is great if you organize small trips to nearby locations for picnics. Allow them to interact with each other and share their different views. It helps them gel with each other and promotes unity among them.

While teaching soccer, talk to kids about the need and importance of discipline in soccer. It is critical that the kids follow what are called the best practices in soccer.

To conclude, teach the kids soccer in a way that enhances their interest in the game. Use these tips to train your team and the results will surprise you.

If you are Coaching Youth Soccer, there are some things every youth soccer coach needs to consider and be aware. You’re probably thinking to yourself that some of these may be common sense, but are you following it?

1. Don’t make speeches. Especially if you’re coaching young kids, making them sit through long lectures is a great way to bore them out of their minds and disinterested in soccer really fast. No matter how old your players are, be short and sweet in whatever you have to say to them.

2. Don’t complicate things. If you’re demonstrating an exercise, try to break it down to its basics. Complicated things never work and this is not different. You can test this by showing the kids a complicated soccer diagram of a drill with fancy arrows and dozens of instructions, you’ll lose their interest.

3. Don’t be a ball boy- this is essential. If you want to keep your players’ respect, don’t run after balls. Make your players go run and get the balls that they shoot out of the field. You can even make it a rule that if they score they don’t have to catch it anymore for that day.

4. It’s important that you don’t allow the ball-kids to join practice if they are there just to get the balls. This simply signals a laxity in discipline- ball boys are just there to get the ball. You can also make some of these kids join your team, but that same day they will not get balls anymore.

5. Never, ever criticize the player. If one of the kids makes something wrong, don’t blame him. Point out the flaws in their technique or skill and do that calmly. Screaming at a player for being ’stupid’ is a great way to make them want to leave your team.

6. While Coaching Youth Soccer, explain it clearly and as briefly as possible. After that it’s time to show the kids how it’s done. They will understand it if you do it properly. Conversely, don’t try and demonstrate something that you can’t do.

7. Health and safety should always be foremost in a coach’s mind. This means making sure that the ground and the equipment are in good shape before your soccer training session starts. Remember that if a kid sprains his ankle because the ground was slippery, then it’s technically your fault.

8. Don’t leave the parents out in the dark. Meet with parents regularly and always keep them up-to-date when it comes to the team’s problems and challenges. Always remember that your player’s parents can be your best ally.

When Coaching Youth Soccer, these are important aspects that every coach should consider.
Coaching Youth Soccer can be exciting and fun but there are important aspects every coach needs to take into consideration. You may say that some of these are just simple common sense, but they are not for sure common practice:

1. Don’t make speeches. Especially if you’re coaching young kids, making them sit through long lectures is a great way to bore them out of their minds and disinterested in soccer really fast. The age of your players is nor important. What is important is that you keep your speeches short, sweet and right to the point.

2. Don’t complicate things. When teaching a drill, try to strip it down to its bare run-through and make sure that the players are fluent in it before you modify it. I can bet your players will lose their interest in the practice sessions if you try to give them over complicated exercises with lots of instructions.

3. Don’t be a ball boy- during a soccer practice ball will be travelling all over the field. Leave them alone! This can affect your authority and control over the players and severely damage the respect they have for you. They need to go get it.

4. It’s important that you don’t allow the ball-kids to join practice if they are there just to get the balls. This simply signals a laxity in discipline- ball boys are just there to get the ball. If they ask to be part of the practice session, make them know that they can’t do both.

5. Never, ever criticize the player. One of your players missed a goal? or a decisive pass? Don’t blame them. Point out the flaws in their technique or skill and do that calmly. Screaming at a player for being ’stupid’ is a great way to make them want to leave your team.

6. While Coaching Youth Soccer, explain it clearly and as briefly as possible. Then demonstrate it- your players will pick it up quickly if they see how it’s done.

It’s important that you interact with your player’s parents in a way that they feel integrated and well informed of what it’s happening. Always remember that your player’s parents can be your best ally.

When Coaching Youth Soccer, these are important aspects that every coach should consider.
